Praise God for His faithfulness and leading in our individual families as well as our church family! Cornerstone Church started out as a church plant of Village Evangelical Free Church in South Holland, IL. Recognizing the opportunity for increased ministry opportunities through church planting in the booming LincolnWay area, Village EFC sent out a group of 45 people in January, 2003 to start Cornerstone Church in New Lenox, with Arvid Svendsen serving as pastor. God began to work in our midst as a leadership core was formed.
After meeting at LincolnWay Central High School in New Lenox for about two years, the leadership at Cornerstone Church felt lead of the Lord to pursue a partnership with Harvest Bible Fellowship (HBF). Working with then director of HBF, Gordon Zwirkoski, Cornerstone Church explored the benefits and blessings of HBF, and eventually became Harvest Bible Chapel New Lenox (HBCNL) on October 2, 2005. That partnership lasted until March 31, 2012, at which time our church chose to withdraw from HBF over doctrinal disagreement and philosophy of ministry issues. As of April 1, 2012, our church reverted back to our original name, slightly enhanced to "Cornerstone Church of LincolnWay". We have rejoiced in our unified commitment to Biblical orthodoxy and orthopraxy.
In June of 2014, Cornerstone Church was contacted by the leadership of Crossroads Community Church in New Lenox for the purpose of joining together with Cornerstone. Following a few meetings of the leadership of both church families, we all joyfully agreed to do so. That decision resulted in the beginning of the process of legal acquisition of the Crossroads assets and their facility on 1501 Gougar Road. As of July 27, Crossroads Community Church joined with Cornerstone Church in worship at LincolnWay Central High School. Title and mortgage work are now complete and the Cornerstone Church family has begun worshipping at our new location.
God has been working in our midst, and quickly producing a great sense of unity in the Holy Spirit, and expectation for a wonderful future of gospel ministry. Our highest priority is to preach the Bible, which is the inerrant Word of God, and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our LincolnWay area.
